Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos will deliver the lecture "The Persistent Colonial Divide: Humans and Subhumans, Can Law Overcome It" on March 30th, 15h40, at the Vatican, as a part of the Papal Summit of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on “Colonization, Decolonization and Neocolonialism from the Perspective of Justice and the Common Good.”
The Holy Father Pope Francis has called for a Summit of judges, public servants, and leading scholars with the purpose of addressing justice and the common good in the African and American contexts. The Pope is inviting reflections on contemporary tragedies of hunger and famine, war and terror, catastrophic migrations, displacement, deepening global inequalities, and marginalization through the lenses of colonialization, decolonialization, and neocolonialism “so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.”
