Mireille Fanon Mendes France, jurist, is Chair of the Frantz Fanon Foundation, whose work involves contesting new forms of colonialism, promoting the knowledge and challenges present in Frantz Fanon thought, namely emancipation, coloniality of power and the rejection of all forms of discrimination and exclusion. Mireille Fanon-Mendes France was professor inter alia, at the University Paris V-Descartes. She worked at UNESCO and at the French National Assembly. She is currently chair of the working group of experts on UN People African descendants. Active on the issue of political prisoners, by example in Palestine, she works specifically on the issues of self-determination and of international solidarity. She has authored several articles on human rights and humanitarian law, as well as on racism and discrimination and other topics related to international relations and international law. In 2009 she received the Human Rights Award given by the Council for Justice, Equality and Peace.
