Jean-Louis Laville is a sociologist and economist, professor at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM). Laville has researched and published on the relationship between economy and society, and in particular on economic sociology, at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire pour la Sociologie Economique (Lise, CNRS-Cnam, Paris). He is also European coordinator of the Karl Polanyi Institute of Political Economy. Laville has been responsible for the initiative "Université populaire et citoyenne Paris-Cnam", achieved through a series of meetings since 2007, where is regularly discussed the other economy under practical and theoretical levels. He coordinated editorial series in Brazil, France and Italy and has an extensive, internationally known academic output. Among his published works are Sociologie des services (2005), Action publique et économie solidaire (2007, com J.P. Magnen, G.C. de França Filho, A. Medeiros), Dictionnaire de l´autre économie (2007, com A.D. Cattani); Dicionario Internacional a Outra Economia (2009, AD Cattani, LI Gaiger, P Hespanha); Diccionario de la otra economia (2009, AD Cattani, JL Coraggio); Travail, une nouvelle question politique (2008) e Politique de l'association (2010).
